Welcome to the Korup National Park website. Originally established as the Korup Native Administration Forest Reserve on October 14, 1937, it was later reclassified as the Korup Forest Reserve by the Kumba Western Council on January 27, 1962. It achieved its status as a National Park through a Presidential Decree on October 30, 1986, becoming the first rainforest national park in Cameroon.
Spanning 1,260 km², Korup National Park shares a border with Cross-River National Park in Nigeria. The park is centrally located among other protected areas such as Rumpi Hills, community forests, Council forests, and FMUs. It encompasses parts of three administrative divisions: Ndian, Manyu, and Kupe Muanenguba, and includes 32 villages in its vicinity, with five villages (Erat, Ekon 1, Akpasang, Ikenge, and Ikondo Kondo) located within the park.
Since 2006, activities and investments in Korup National Park have been co-financed by the Programme for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources, South West Region (PSMNR-SWR), a collaborative development project between the Government of Cameroon and the Federal Republic of Germany. The park has implemented three management plans spanning 2002-2007, 2009-2013, and 2017-2021, focusing on sustainable conservation and management practices.
Korup National Park is being proposed as the “Korup Rainforest Biosphere Reserve” and the “Korup-Oban Rainforest” Transboundary Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO. Explore and discover the rich biodiversity and natural beauty that Korup has to offer.
